Argument

How can we produce today, while taking care of the regions, their stakeholders and their know-how and soft skills? The deindustrialisation, the globalisation of market systems and the demand for flexibility from workers that have marked the transition to the 21st century have contributed to a massive qualitative loss of sociability and local technical environments. In the face of this situation, new energies are being mobilised to give meaning and the power of emancipation back to work and productive activity, whatever it may be. This is where the IDIS Chair – Industry, Design & Social Innovation project comes in. The first design research chair in an art college, the IDIS Chair coordinates and brings together a unique production network across the Grand Est region. The aim is to use the concept of social innovation to give shape to new collective enterprises. Based on this localised experience, the book reveals fields of action and critical analysis related to the designer’s activity, for today and for tomorrow. Bringing together philosophy, economics and anthropology, as well as design and the leaders of social projects, this book aims to give pride of place to the various players involved in transforming the ‘work’ experience.
