Argument
Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore form a duo of exceptional artists, both in terms of their work and their courage. They resist in the dual sense of the term. From 1940, they placed leaflets on the windscreens of military vehicles to undermine the morale of German soldiers, while their stagings, their self-portraits, their images and their texts resist classification, categorisation and stereotyping. In politics as in art, Cahun and Moore fight against injustice, undermine the foundations of authority, subvert the established order, and expand the realm of possibilities. But their work also resists the erosion of time: it continues to influence the practice of countless contemporary artists. Presenting the different facets of the life paths of Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore, reflecting on some of the infinite artistic reflections and showing the impact of their legacy on our contemporary world: these are the issues addressed in this work, which is a blend of art and philosophy.
The work follows on from the study day of 20 March 2019: Claude Cahun, her legacy in contemporary thought and creation.
